A little Time out (PG-13)

To me the meeting of Pippin and Faramir is one of the most cute and touching scenes in The Return of the King… By then they haven´t spoken to each other that much and considering that their little talk is a pretty unusual one. They´re putting their hearts right onto the table, completely free of mistrust or etiquette. Pippin must be glad to meet a friendly soul in this cold intimidating place where he´s a stranger. And Faramir – I think he just enjoys to lower his shield for a while and be all himself. I could easily see him taking a look at his non-existent watch saying: “Well, in half an hour my shift will be over and I happen to know a tavern down at the fifth circle. So what do you think about continuing our chat in the company of some Gondorian ale?” And then they´re sit there, emptying pitcher after pitcher. Pippin starts to sing some Hobbit drinking songs, even the ones he wouldn´t be allowed to sing in the Green Dragon before midnight and Faramir gets accustomed to the art of smoking pipeweed… cross-cultural training at work! :D Larger version available on LiveJournal.
