You make me glad I posted this work in progress back then. Though it was posted for the 4th anniversary, and the archive just turned 10, so it’s been 6 years without any progress, which also makes me feel a bit guilty… I’m horrible with posting WIPs and then taking years to finish them, if at all.

I have to admit, I haven’t drawn this from life or from memory, but from a photo, so it’s not such a feat but still good practise (though I did take the photo myself). The photo is from late 2001 or early 2002, which would make my model 23 or 24 at the time. So perhaps instead of finally finishing this one, I could do an updated version since my lovely model is now the same age as Faramir during the Great Years.

And sure, link away. However, I’d rather not see the image reposted as it’s quite intimate and I’d like to keep control over it (here I know I can remove it whenever I want).

Thank you for posting this early, so to speak. It is one of things I am already noticing (and loving) about this site: there are so many WIP’s (and not just writing, which I think people post in progress more commonly than artwork). It can take a lot of courage to post unfinished artwork and I’m so glad you had it. I love being able to watch the progress of compositions and I think it’s helpful, as well, to anyone trying their own skill.
I don’t know if it’s the half fetal curl or the freshness of his unmarked skin, but he looks so young here, which seems to enhance his serenity. The foreground elbow is skillfully shaded as are the hand and fingers. Quite a feat in this position. That hand would be tough if you had this exact model laid out before you (which I hope you did-lucky you!) But if you had only your imagination to aid you, it is all the more impressive. If it’s alright with you, I would like to put a link to this, for my personal use, in my evernote: art>drawing>hands folder under the heading “see thumb”. It’s so well done
