Oh dear, how strange it is to go back and revisit something I wrote ten years ago. This was probably around the time I read Ellen Kushner’s Swordspoint which I adored (recommendation alert!). Ah, thank you for reading, commenting and taking me a trip down memory lane.

I really admire the way the reveal is done in this story. We start together with Faramir, having no clue where we are, what’s going on, nor really even who we are. Then just as he is slowly pulled up from his fever, so are we, and the mists of confusion and misconception fall away. Very elegantly designed.

I’m also curious now to understand what happened after. Aragorn kissing him – did it seem to the king this was necessary for the healing, or was it does for its own sake? And Faramir does not seem too happy about having fallen in love – what’s behind that?
