That solace grows quickly into love that drives him to make the ultimate sacrifice for his lover to have Faramir set free and away from harm. Faramir is sent to Helm’s Deep, where he almost dies saving Haldir. In doing so, Haldir, whose only hope was to die there himself, becomes responsible for the Ranger, and isn’t exactly happy about it. Charged with returning Faramir to Gondor, he is torn between falling for him, and fulfilling his wish to die – since a warrior like himself would have no place in Aman, nor on Middle Earth after the war ended. Would he?

Faramir and Haldir join the Fellowship and vow to do everything in their power to see the one ring destroyed. Things get complicated, however, when they fall in love almost immediately, and vow to protect one another as well. When the ring accidentally falls into Faramir’s possession, Haldir realizes that he can’t do both.

When Faramir has to take a slave in order to save him from the harsher masters, both he and his unwilling slave have a difficult time coming to terms with the situation.

Faramir is given to Haldir of Lorien in payment for an insult to the Elf by Denethor. Alone and afraid, he realizes that things aren’t always what they seem.

Haldir is captured and abused by the Haradrim. Faramir is captured as well, but afforded a little more care, because he has value in the Haradrim’s eyes. Unspeakable tortures are bestowed on the Elf, yet Faramir saves him…in more ways than one, without even knowing it.
